Coal Impoundment Risk Assessment

Final July 2002 Report

Summary

Since the October 2000 coal waste spill  in Martin County, KY a series of agency reports have been  produced that speak to vital aspects of impoundment safety, regulation and enforcement issues surrounding coal waste impoundments.  These other agency reports are listed below for the reader's benefit.

Since impoundment regulations, enforcement and safety issues have been covered well in these other reports, the following report speaks less to impoundment stability and more to the after effects of the spill on the impacted community.  The social impact report on this page is a report of the impacts of the coal waste spill on community and civic life in Martin County, KY.
