Minor in Sociology

A student may minor in Sociology by completing the following courses: SOC 131 and 15 hours of sociology electives, 12 of which must be upper division. Three hours of upper division anthropology may be applied to the 15 hours.

Minor in Appalachian Studies

A student may minor in Appalachian Studies by completing 18 credit hours, incorporating 15 hours of electives from at least three different programs (ANT/SWK 331, ECO 340, ENG 365, GEO 430, HIS 420, OTS 520/720, POL 373, SOC 363, SOC 365, SOC 370) and completing three hours from the Seminar in Appalachian Studies (APP 460). Students may also select content relevant special topics or independent studies courses with the approval of the Director.

Minor in Deviance/Criminology

A student may minor in Deviance/Criminology by completing the following courses: SOC 131, SOC 313, SOC 340, SOC 375, and nine hours from ANT 375, ANT 380, FOR 301, HEA 345, CRJ 325, PSY 308, or SOC 347. Note that some of the required and elective courses have prerequisites.

Minor in Social Inequalities

A student may minor in Social Inequalities by completing a minimum of 18 hours as follows: SOC 399, SOC 400, SOC 463, SOC 480, and six credit hours of electives from CRJ 325, CRJ 345, HIS 305, HIS 385, POL 345, POL 373, POL 446, POL 451, SOC 330, SOC 345, SOC 365, SOC 375, SOC 415, SOC 460, or WMS 400. It is suggested that non-majors complete SOC 131 prior to enrolling in upper-division sociology courses. Other electives may be approved for the minor as they are offered. Note that some of the required and elective courses have prerequisites. Average GPA of courses applied to the minor must be 2.0 or better.

Minor in Social Institutions and Social Change

A student may minor in Social Institutions and Social Change by taking a total of 18 hours from the courses listed below. A total of twelve (12) hours must be in Sociology from the following core courses: SOC 131, SOC 345, SOC 420, and SOC 480. A total of six (6) hours must come from the following courses: ANT 200, CJS 350, GEO 200, GEO 201, GEO 202, GEO 220, GEO322, GEO 330, HIS 303, HIS 304, HIS 305, HIS 308, HIS 309, HIS 342, HIS 347, HIS 350, HIS 365, HIS 375, HIS 380, HIS 383, HIS 384, HIS 386, HIS 401, HIS 402, HIS 403, HIS 405, HIS 408, HIS 411, HIS 412, HIS 413, HIS 475, PHI 330, POL 220, POL 321, POL 327, POL 373, SOC 353, SOC 360, SOC 365, SOC 370, SOC 375, SOC 383, SOC 399, SOC 400, SOC 415, SOC 450, SOC 455, SOC 465.
